The tapered groove and the offset between the drill bit and shank ends prevent jamming, even in damp wood, while there is sufficient strength to cut through nails in the wood. The installation drill bit is made of HSS (high-speed steel) in accordance with DIN 7490. It has a drill tip with a 118 degree conical ground edge.
